RFM Leadership Manual
Guidelines for Christian leadership, service, accountability and ministry responsibility within RFM.
1. Purpose of the Manual
This Leadership Manual provides guidelines for Christian leadership within Rooted Faith Ministry. It defines the character, responsibilities, and accountability expected of all who serve in leadership.
2. RFM Leadership Philosophy
Leadership in RFM is modeled after Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. Leaders are called to shepherd God's people with humility, love, and faithfulness.
3. Servant Leadership
"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant." — Matthew 20:26
Leadership in RFM is service, not personal status or control. Leaders serve by caring for, teaching, guiding, and protecting those entrusted to them.
4. Qualifications for Leaders
Leaders should demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a life consistent with biblical teaching, spiritual maturity and sound judgment, a calling and willingness to serve, and the ability to teach, lead, or shepherd others.
5. Character Standards
Leaders must pursue integrity, honesty, humility, purity, and faithfulness. Their private and public lives should honor Christ and not bring reproach on the ministry.
6. Leadership Responsibilities
Leaders are responsible for teaching God's Word, shepherding members, leading by example, overseeing ministry activities, and maintaining the spiritual health and unity of the body.
7. Spiritual Leadership
Leaders must prioritize their own relationship with God through prayer, Scripture, and worship. They cannot lead others where they have not gone themselves.
8. Teamwork
Leaders serve together as a team, respecting one another's gifts, submitting to one another in love, and working in unity for the good of the ministry.
9. Communication
Leaders should communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully. They should listen well, speak truth in love, and avoid gossip and harmful speech.
10. Confidentiality
Leaders must protect confidential information shared by members, including prayer requests, personal struggles, and pastoral matters. Confidentiality is broken only where safety or law requires disclosure.
11. Decision-Making
Decisions are made prayerfully, seeking God's guidance through Scripture, counsel, and consensus. Leaders should be patient, wise, and unified in their decisions.
12. Conflict Management
Conflicts should be addressed promptly, biblically, and with a spirit of reconciliation. Leaders should model peacemaking and humility in resolving disputes.
13. Financial Integrity
Leaders must handle finances with transparency and honesty. Ministry funds must never be used for personal gain. (See the RFM Financial Policy.)
14. Safeguarding Responsibilities
Leaders are responsible for protecting children and vulnerable persons. They must follow the RFM Child Protection Policy and report any safeguarding concerns.
15. Digital Leadership
Leaders must model Christlike behavior in all digital communication, including social media, messaging, and online meetings. They should uphold the RFM Digital Community Guidelines.
16. Handling Prayer Requests
Prayer requests must be handled with care and confidentiality. Leaders should pray faithfully and follow up where appropriate, never disclosing private requests without permission.
17. Handling Sensitive Information
Sensitive information — including personal struggles, financial needs, and pastoral matters — must be handled with discretion, compassion, and confidentiality.
18. Correcting Misconduct
When a leader falls into misconduct, the matter should be addressed with truth and love, following biblical principles. The goal is repentance, correction, and restoration where possible.
19. Leader Development
RFM is committed to developing new leaders through training, mentoring, and practical ministry experience. Leaders should invest in those who will follow them.
20. Leadership Accountability
Leaders are accountable to one another, to the ministry, and ultimately to God. They should welcome feedback, correction, and oversight.
21. Leadership Transition
Leadership transitions should be handled with prayer, planning, and care, ensuring continuity of ministry and care for the people.
22. Resignation
A leader who wishes to resign should do so with proper notice, prayer, and communication, ensuring a smooth transition.
23. Removal from Leadership
A leader may be removed from office for persistent misconduct, false teaching, or failure to fulfill responsibilities, following a fair and biblical process.
24. Restoration
A leader who has fallen may, after genuine repentance and a season of restoration, be considered for renewed service, subject to wisdom, counsel, and the well-being of the ministry.
